Transferring retirement savings from a 401(k) to an IRA can offer greater investment flexibility and control, but missteps during this process could lead to unnecessary taxes, penalties, or lost opportunities for growth. 1. Missing the 60-Day Rollover Window
When leaving a company like ConocoPhillips, you may decide to move your 401(k) into an individual retirement account (IRA). There are two ways to move your funds: through a direct transfer or a 60-day rollover.
